WINE EDUCATION and PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT in TWO COURSES
inviting Perth’s curious wine sippers and hospitality industry to expand their skills and knowledge with an unexplored awareness and respect for what we have in our glass. Learn to trust your palate, go beyond what you know already.
The Canny Grapes Wine Appreciation Courses are a result of witnessing plenty of wine enthusiasts and hard working hospitality staff thirsty for wine knowledge they can apply with confidence. Through delivering wine training to staff, curating over 250 CG Wine Education Classes and my own extensive travels and wine experiences around the world, this new chapter and course is a response to the enquiries from curious wine consumers and Perth’s hospitality industry.
TEACHING THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN TASTING AND DRINKING
Knowledge through experience
My number one response when someone asked me what I do for work, and when a simple “I’m a wine educator and wine consultant” didn’t find a common ground, I say that I’m teaching the difference between tasting and drinking. Everyone knows how to drink wine, yet very few understand how to connect with what is in the glass, appreciating and respecting wine that represents so much more than a grape varietal or a label on the bottle.
From the beginning the purpose and focus for Canny Grapes Wine Education was to share wine knowledge from the heart, connecting with the soul of wine, the soil it grows on, the growers, believers and makers. Ten years on, I’m still enjoying my chosen path of learning, teaching, sharing the World of Wine, my way.
My curiosity, resilience and forward vision are the cornerstones influencing what I know today.
I boarded countless of planes, hired plenty of cars and rocked up at wineries often with a very short notice or a more casual visit as the road less travelled lead me to the destinations. Most often there was no plan, and I still enjoy travelling for wine ‘my way’ collecting stories, connecting with country, feeling the place of the wine’s origin, learning about the pioneering spirit and immense self-belief involved to create what we now get to enjoy and APPRECIATE in our wine glasses and cellar.
