The Canny Grapes Champagne Course is a result of witnessing wine enthusiasts, sommeliers, winemakers, wine distributors, restaurant managers thirsty for champagne knowledge they can apply with confidence. Through delivering wine training to staff, curating over 250 CG Wine Education Classes and my own extensive travels and wine experiences around the world, this new chapter and course is designed to help understand Champagne as a place and champagne as a wine.

Champagne is not only a successful international brand and wine of choice for celebrations., champagne is much more if you look close enough, leave behind what you think you know, and allow yourself to connect with what makes champagne truly unique.

From Champagne Masterclasses to a Champagne Appreciation course that delivers in depth knowledge and newly acquired skills for Perth’s champagne enthusiasts and hospitality professionals. Designed to dive deep, combining technical foundation elements and behind the bottle insights connecting with champagne as a soul-filled effervescent masterpiece, this course includes five in person classes (2.5 hours) with a maximum of 10 participants.

Champagne always had my heart, something I cannot described with words. I’m truly grateful to connect all the dots of my Champagne Journey so far and it is only timely to finally offer a Champagne Course after 10 years of sharing my passion for champagne in form of Champagne tasting events, Champagne Dinners and Masterclasses.

The course is designed for those wanting to go beyond a world-wide brand, a truly remarkable and one of a kind wine, connecting with Champagne’s history and future. It is an interactive course, we will discuss all things champagne together so you can confidently apply and enjoy your new in depth knowledge. Course Structure and what is included

  • 5 x 2.5 hours in person classes

  • Each class includes a Signature Tasting element of three to four cuvées based on class theme i.e. sub-region vs village; grape varietals & cépage, malolactic vs non-malolactic, producer focussed signature styles, role of disgorgement dates, ageing & dosage; aroma development & glassware; bottle formats including Magnum

  • Terroir, place and grapes of Champagne; understanding the difference between each sub-region of Champagne; the art of blending and how champagne is able to translate true sense of place

  • The technical and emotional aspects of champagne

  • Winemaking and viticulture, historic milestones and key personalities then and now

  • Evolution of champagne’s styles and structure; champagne & food pairing (each session has a food element included)
