The philosophy behind Canny Grapes is to explore the World of Wine, from vine to glass, learning about wine in its many forms, connecting with place and story with focus on essence and education. Founded in 2016, independent wine consultant, wine educator and event host Anja Lewis shares her extensive wine knowledge with respect, authenticity, passion and charm, from the heart. Based in Perth, Western Australia Anja Lewis hosts public and private wine events for wine consumers, wine merchants and wine producers as well as her own Canny Grapes wine tasting classes, champagne masterclasses, wine dinners, corporate events and private functions for groups up to 150 guests. In 2026, the 10th anniversary, Anja is combining her expertise and experience in a brand new WINE APPRECIATION COURSE.
Anja's holistic approach led her to becoming an invaluable consultant to the wine industry including restaurants, wine bars, liquor stores and wine producers. She is one of a kind, bringing together extensive knowledge and experience combined with her unique drive for excellence & balance in business and life. Read more about Anja here.
One of Anja’s biggest passions is Champagne! She started her own educational CG Champagne Club and partners with champagne producers as well as distributors to promote champagne here in Australia, hosting masterclasses and Champagne Dinners. Anja shares her love for Champagne in many ways including visiting Maisons and growers in Champagne, France as well as having contributed to Australia’s Champagne magazine Vine & Bubble. In 2024 Anja completed her Master of Champagne, a highly regarded certified wine education program by the Wine Scholar Guild.

DELIVERING AUTHENTIC WINE TASTING EXPERIENCES IN PERTH, WESTERN AUSTRALIA
Canny Grapes’s wine tasting classes started at Mayland’s favourite neighbourhood bar Swallow Bar in February 2017 where Perth’s most popular wine tasting class ‘Sparkling & Champagne’, Anja’s expertise, became a must do experience, which she hosted every first Saturday of the month for almost three years along with wine classes focussing on a wine region, wine style or grape variety. Each wine tasting class is unique with selected wines based on Anja’s wine travels seeking new wine stories and wines to share as well as shining a light on how to taste wine in her passionate, fun and educational style inviting wine lovers to explore the world of wine. Canny Grapes became very quickly, and still is, a much loved wine experience for Perth’s wine lovers.

Wines of Place is an invitation you to taste and learn about wine from a different view point, tasting wines that carry the energy of connection, personality and true essence.

The Canny Grapes Wine Appreciation Course is a result of witnessing plenty of wine enthusiasts and hard working hospitality staff thirsty for wine knowledge they can apply with confidence. Through delivering wine training to staff, curating over 200 CG Wine Education Classes and my own extensive travels and wine experiences around the world, this new chapter and course is a response to the enquiries from curious wine consumers and Perth’s hospitality industry.
