Anja Lewis is a Perth based independent wine educator, consultant, wine enthusiast and champagne lover.
Deciding to change from an engineering career to working in wine, Western Australia had everything Anja wanted to experience and understand to become a wine professional. Always curious and eager to apply what she learned, Anja spent two years working in vineyards and wineries including cellar door, wine distribution, sales and marketing. After completing her WSET Level 3 with the Wine and Spirit Education Trust, and being selected as a finalist in the then most coveted biannual wine accolades Vin de Champagne Awards held on behalf of the Comité de Champagne in Sydney, Anja dedicated all her work and travels to wine.
Anja founded Canny Grapes in 2016, seizing the opportunity to follow her passion and purpose as well as the quest to learn everything about wine. She travelled extensively for wine, visiting wine regions around the world and within Australia to learn and understand how each place (vineyard & grape varietals) connects us via a glass, carrying history and world heritage, vision and ambition from the makers and caretakers, stories and emotions from the land and people, always choosing real life experience over study books. Saying that, Anja continued her wine studies and successfully completed the highly regarded WSG Champagne Master program in 2024 with the Wine Scholar Guild.
In the ten years of operating Canny Grapes Wine Education, Anja curated and hosted over 250 wine tasting classes, wine and champagne dinners, corporate functions and private events. Anja works as an independent wine and restaurant consultant applying a holistic approach based on her wealth of experience within the hospitality industry and from her corporate background. Her newest offering to Perth’s wine professionals and champagne enthusiasts is the CG Champagne Course. Anja is also a WA Committee member of Sommeliers Australia.
As a founder and company director of Biota in Harmony Anja expanded her entrepreneurship in 2020 following the call to serve her purpose as a Reiki Master Teacher, Reiki practitioner and mentor. Anja’s adventurous professional life also includes having a trade as a Stukkateur (plasterer), a university degree in Mechanical Engineering working as a Production Operations Engineer, and an International Superyacht Hospitality Crew certification working on private yachts in the Caribbean as a chef and first mate sailing the British Virgin Islands.
When Anja isn’t sharing her expertise, knowledge and wisdom, she loves being in nature, especially by the ocean enjoying her daily beach walks.
