The philosophy behind CANNY GRAPES is to explore the world of wine. Study, learn and experience wine in all its styles, colours and tastes. Travel wine regions, meet the incredibly talented winemakers and their team, get to know terroir, the vineyards and how wine is made. Luckily there are wine professionals and wine specialists around the world who share their experiences with us, who write books, publish magazines, taste and judge wines, encouraging us wine lovers to keep venturing.
Founded in 2016, CANNY GRAPES is about sharing and expanding wine knowledge, inviting you to journey through vineyards, wine regions, grape varieties, wine history and learn interesting facts about wine - all together a fun and educational wine tasting experience. Director and founder Anja Lewis hosts regular wine classes based on her extensive wine travels, curates wine & food pairing dinners and is an event host and presenter for wine magazines, wine merchants and international producers. Anja also shares her passion for wine at private and corporate events for groups ranging from 10 to 150 guests.
Anja is known and respected for her authentic, honest and holistic approach as a wine, restaurant and winery consultant combining her wine knowledge and drive for business with her continuous improvement skills and previous corporate engineering background. Read more about Anja’s background here.
One of Anja’s biggest passions is Champagne! She started her own educational CG Champagne Club and partners with champagne producers as well as distributors to promote champagne here in Australia. Anja has also shared her love for Champagne with Canny Grapes customers in person visiting producers in Champagne, France and she writes for Australia’s Champagne magazine Vine & Bubble.

WINE TASTING CLASSES
Canny Grapes’s wine tasting classes started at Mayland’s favourite neighbourhood bar Swallow Bar in February 2017 where Perth’s most popular wine tasting class ‘Sparkling & Champagne’, Anja’s expertise, became a must do experience, which she hosted every first Saturday of the month for almost three years along with wine classes focussing on a wine region, wine style or grape variety. Each wine tasting class is unique with selected wines based on Anja’s wine travels seeking new wine stories and wines to share as well as shining a light on how to taste wine in her passionate, fun and educational style inviting wine lovers to explore the world of wine. Canny Grapes became very quickly, and still is, a much loved wine experience for Perth’s wine lovers.
2024 Canny Grapes Wine Tasting Classes
Anja’s ‘Around the World in 80 Wines’ wine tasting event series is almost completed. Our remaining destinations are South Africa, Australia and New Zealand and we will be concluding this incredible, extensive wine trip this year! For May, June and July Anja is inviting you to join her for ‘Sparkling & Champagne’ in May, followed by two Tour de France Wine classes in June and July!
